Sleep Out for St Martins

Friday 26th January at Norwich Cathedral

Sleep Out at Norwich Cathedral Cloisters on Friday 26th January and raise funds for St Martins.

This is an amazing opportunity to spend the night in the beautiful Norwich Cathedral Cloisters. Fall asleep and wake up in one of the most iconic landmarks of the city which has a rich history spanning over 900 years.

St Martins Sleep out logo featuring Norwich Cathedral and a moonArrive at Norwich Cathedral between 7.30pm and 8pm, bringing everything you will need for a good night’s sleep underneath the Cloisters. There will be a chance to hear more about the work of St Martins to support people out of homelessness. There is a soup run in the evening with Compline at 9pm, and then you can gradually bed down. The event is not intended to replicate being homeless, but to raise awareness of the challenges people sleeping rough face and an opportunity to raise money through sponsorship.

You will be able to leave from 6.30am the following morning, with the Cloister being clear at 7.30am.

This is open to those who are over 18. No dogs, no alcohol, and no tents! We will provide cardboard to go underneath sleeping bags etc.

All we ask in return for the opportunity to sleep in this unique venue is that you raise as much sponsorship as you can for the work of St Martins to support out work in helping people experiencing homelessness in our city and helping to rebuild lives.

The sleepout will take place in the cloisters on the stone floor. We will provide cardboard to sleep on, and you are advised to bring whatever you need to make yourself more comfortable – we suggest:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow
  • Warm layers
  • Phone
  • Torch
  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Re-usable cup (hot water for drinks will be available)

Come at any time from 7:30pm onwards and select your spot in the cloisters where you intend to sleep.

Compline will be said at 9pm. Everyone is welcome to join in if they wish to, but please don’t feel obliged. Compline is a service of evening prayers said before retiring for the night.

A toilet will be accessible at all times.

We encourage you to ask your friends and family for sponsorship. There is no particular target, so please don’t feel pressurised to raise a certain amount. The more money that is raised, the more people St Martins can help out of homelessness.

Participants can use the platform JustGiving to rise funds online, which is quick and easy for supporters to donate.

If you prefer to raise support offline, a sponsor form is available to download from here or contact St Martins on 01603 667706 or fundraising@stmartinshousing.org.uk to request a printed copy.

Complete the registration form below, or via this link: St Martins Cathedral Sleepout registration we will then contact you to confirm your place, and to give you further information. If you have any questions please contact us on fundraising@stmartinshousing.org.uk or 01603 667706.

The cloisters offer shelter from rain (or snow!) We are expecting it to be cold in January so please be prepared for this. The event is intended to be a challenge so you are likely to feel cold and uncomfortable – all the more reason for people to donate to support you!

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any under 18s at the Sleep Out.
