Debz’ swimming challenge for St Martins

Debz Parkes undertook a sponsored swim to raise money for St Martins. Debz’ desire to raise some funds comes from the appreciation of having her own home. She said, “I wanted to give something back”. Debz is a wheelchair user and has round-the-clock care. One of her carers used to work for St Martins and recommended it as a great charity to support.

Debz, who lives in Taverham,  swam a total of 27 lengths at the pool at UEA in Norwich, which she completed all in one go on her birthday this year. This is a huge achievement for her and she handed over the £65 she raised in sponsorship and was presented with a certificate at St Martins head office.

Debz feels motivated to set herself another challenge now, proving that limited mobility and physical challenge is no barrier to helping other people.

Dr Jan Sheldon. CEO of St Martins said, “Debz did really well in her fundraising challenge and swimming that distance was an incredible effort. Her donation will go directly to help people out of homelessness.”
