Norwich charity St Martins is inviting people to the unforgettable experience of walking over hot coals to raise money to help people out of homelessness.
The Fire walk will take place on Friday 14th November at Roarr! Dinosaur Park in Lenwade. This unique event has been described by the charity as a fantastic personal challenge that will make a positive impact on the lives of local people.
Participants will walk barefoot over 15 feet of glowing coals reaching temperatures of up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. Prior to the walk, a training session will be led by experienced leaders from the Fundraising Firewalk Association to ensure everyone feels confident, safe, and inspired before taking their fiery steps. A fire walk isn’t painful; the sensation has been described as like walking on eggshells or walking on hot sand.
“For many, walking over hot coals is a bucket list experience,” said Dr Jan Sheldon Chief Executive of St Martins. “It’s a new fundraising event for us and we hope to engage some new supporters by offering something different. Every step taken during the Firewalk directly supports vital services for people experiencing homelessness.”
Michael Newey, Chief Executive of Broadland Housing who is sponsoring the event said, “Broadland has been committed to helping end homelessness in our communities since the early 1960s. We are pleased to support St Martins and the vital work they do locally. Events like the Fire Walk not only raise much-needed funds, but also bring people together to make a real difference for those experiencing homelessness in Norwich.”
Participant Holly Jex who works in fundraising for St Martins said, Participant Holly Jex who works in fundraising for St Martins said, “I’m really excited to give this a go, it’s quite a unique event and I’d like to challenge myself and go out of my comfort zone. In my role I have seen firsthand the positive difference St Martins makes to people’s lives, sometimes by challenging fears and trying new things, so this is a fitting way to raise some funds for a great cause.”
Bookings are now being taken for the event which starts at 7pm on Friday 14th November. There is an early bird half price offer of £15 per person if booked before October 10, with the commitment to try and raise £100 of sponsorship. Participants must be aged 12 and over.
