On Saturday the 2nd of November we brought a little bit of Mexico to Highwater House by celebrating The Day of the Dead. This traditional South American festival remembers past friends and family and gives a chance to celebrate with food and drink.
We had a great spread of Mexican foods – tacos, chili and refried beans – before an entertaining evening of games and music, and finishing with a film.
Some people got into the spirit and dressed up, and Sharkira and the team decorated our activities room out with skulls and other ghostly decorations (including a full sized skeleton!).
Residents enjoyed the games and food – it was a chance to bring us together. Talk turned to family, our pasts and futures.
Highwater House is our residential service for people who have been homeless who have an addiction as well as a diagnosed mental health condition. Holding social activities such as our Day of the Dead party helps us to support our residents, encourages them to talk and belong – and above all, to enjoy themselves – who doesn’t love a party?!
It was a great success!
