Over the past few weeks we’ve enjoyed getting to know members of Assist Trust’s Helping Our Community group. The Assist Trust help people with learning difficulties to progress and move forward in their lives. We were delighted that they chose St Martins as the charity to benefit from their fundraising activities.
Members of the group held cake sales over the last few weeks. They also sold homemade crafts at their open day earlier this month and arranged a supermarket collection at the Co-op at Earlham House – a fantastic total of £190.95 was raised. Parents and carers provided some wonderful donations of new toiletries which will be put to good use at our hostels.
A small group from Assist Trust visited us at our training centre Under 1 Roof to have a look around and see what we do and how the money they raised will be spent. It was a really positive experience because there are many similarities in the work our organisations do – we build up our members’ confidence and self-esteem and support them to develop skills to gradually become more independent in their lives.
