Introducing Antonio

Antonio joined our team this year as the Manager at Bishopbridge House, our 30 bed direct-access hostel. We spoke to him about his first month in his role:

Tell us about yourself.

Antonio

My name is Antonio and I joined St. Martins just over a month ago. It’s been a privilege to join St. Martins and to be a part in its mission which aims to provide more than a home for the homeless. I started working in health and social care eight years ago as a care assistant in a Nursing Care home by the coast.

My position within St. Martins is to lead a professional team of support workers aimed to promote positive changes into our residents’ lives, and to enhance their independent living abilities. The key towards the achievement of this is building and maintaining good relationships with the people we support.

What have you enjoyed in the first month and a half?

I have enjoyed the smooth induction process due to the extensive support from my colleagues. I would like to thank them for welcoming me and making me comfortable at Bishopbridge house. I have had the pleasure of meeting with some amazing people we support and listening to their life stories, but the real joy is when I am seeing positive improvement in their lifestyle.

What challenges have you had to face?

When supporting people in need there are always going to be a variety of challenges that we have to face and overcome. At Bishopbridge House, the team members are given the most up-to-date training within the industry. Each team member is bringing different experiences from different backgrounds where they have been working before. This blends into the comprehensive person-centred approach towards the people we support.

What would you say to someone who is looking to join St Martins or start a career in Social Care?

St Martins is a high-performing organisation, which is proven to be committed to end homelessness around Norwich since 1972. As a high-performing organisation St Martins is providing high-class equipment, properties, training and many other useful tools to build each team member’s confidence into their role.
