Norwich City Football Club has announced it has picked St Martins as the club’s nominated matchday charity on Saturday January 25 for the match against Swansea.
Chief Executive Dr Jan Sheldon said, “We are thrilled to be selected for NCFC’s nominated matchday charity. Just as the Canaries are synonymous with Norwich, so the work of St Martins is integral to the city. We have supported over 25,000 people over the years – some people for just a short while until they get their lives back on track – and others live in our residential projects for the rest of their lives. Our work transforms lives – and in many cases saves lives – and we are immensely proud to have this platform at Carrow Road to showcase our charity.”
As part of the charity matchday, chair of trustees Colin Bland was nominated as ‘local hero’. Colin Bland has been a trustee at St Martins for 13 years and Chair of Trustees since 2016. Colin, along with a board of trustees, steers the strategic direction of St Martins, ensuring the charity stays efficient, moves with the times and continues to fulfil its mission of nobody needing to sleep rough in Norwich. Colin is a qualified accountant and held the post of CEO at Broadland Council for many years. Colin is local to Norwich and is a passionate supporter of NCFC.
Colin had an important role in securing St Martins House as the charity’s latest housing project on Thorpe Road near to the stadium which provides 23 ensuite bedrooms.
Jan said, “We rarely get to recognise the contribution our trustees make so this is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge Colin’s tireless dedication to St Martins. Colin is an exceptional chair providing exactly the right amount of support to me in my role as CEO, never overly engaged in day-to-day activities but always on hand if a sounding board is needed. The relationship between the Chair and CEO is critical to the successful running of a charity and I am very fortunate to have a Colin as our Chair at St Martins.”
St Martins branding was featured on the pitch-side digital boards and in the matchday programme, and some of the people supported by St Martins attended the match – a 5:1 win to Norwich was the icing on the cake!
