Thursday 24th October saw over 350 of the very best in social care attending a glittering awards ceremony in Peterborough for the finals of the Great East of England Care Awards, where the category winners were announced. The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both home care and care homes sectors, and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. St Martins were among the shortlist and were delighted to have won the category of ‘The Care Home Team Award’ for Highwater House. Highwater House is managed by Angela Herbert and provides residential care for people with addictions alongside a mental health condition, all of whom have been homeless at some point in their lives.
The judges comments are as follows: “Angela and her team demonstrated a real passion for the people they support. This is a unique service that offers real hope to those who are normally hard to reach. Their commitment and enthusiasm were outstanding.”
The news of the award follows a great year for Highwater House, having acheived an Outstanding CQC rating and a national Homeless Link award for delivering excellence.
COE Dr Jan Sheldon said, “It’s a hat trick which we can all be very proud of. The Care Award includes the contribution of everyone at Highwater House – care workers, cooks, cleaners and maintenance worker. They now compete in the national finals in March – whatever the outcome we know that they deliver great care on behalf of our amazing organisation.”
There are nine regional awards celebrating excellence across the care sector. Winners of the Great East of England Care Awards will go through to the national final at Birmingham’s ICC on 20th March 2020.
